4 days from Tangier to Marrakech via Merzouga desert Itinerary
Day 1: Tanger - Chefchaouen - Fes
Join a 4-day journey that travels through the desert from Tangier to Marrakech to fully experience Morocco’s rich culture and natural beauty. The first day of your trip, we will meet you at the pier and drive you through Tetouan and the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen, one of the most beautiful villages at the foot of the Rif Mountains. Enjoy the stunning mountain vistas as we travel around the area.
As you arrive in Chefchaouen, you will have the chance to visit the bustling medina, which is home to a Spanish-style square surrounded by a plethora of hip cafes, roof-top eateries, and art and craft stores. Before we proceed to Fes, where we will spend the night, take in a leisurely lunch at one of the many eateries in the vicinity.
Day 2: Fez - Ifrane - Midelt – Ziz Gorges - Erfoud - Rissani - Merzouga
On the second day of your vacation, we will pick you up from your riad or hotel and start traveling south to the Middle Atlas mountain towns of Ifrane and Azrou. We’ll stop at a cedar grove along the way so you may see Barbary macaques in their natural setting. You will get the chance to take in the breathtaking views of the Middle-Atlas plateau and the lovely Ziz Gorges, which are sculpted in volcanic rock, as we continue our journey across the Tizi Ntalghamt pass to Midelt.
You’ll note that the environment changes as we get closer to Errachidia and glimpses of the arid landscape emerge. Before continuing on to Erfoud, Rissani, and Merzouga through the lovely Ziz Valley, we will have a break for lunch. We’ll treat ourselves to a refreshing drink of mint tea when we get there, then leave our belongings in a safe place and ride camels to a Berber tent in the middle of the Erg Chebbi Sand Dunes, the tallest sand dunes in North Africa.
To ride a camel to the Berber camp will take around an hour and a half. We’ll set up Berber tents with cozy mattresses, blankets, and pillows once we get to the site. We’ll assemble around the campfire following a great dinner to listen to traditional Berber drumming while admiring the magnificent night sky.
As you immerse yourself in Morocco’s breathtaking scenery and vibrant culture, this tour day is sure to be one you won’t soon forget.
Day 3: Merzouga - Todra Gorge - Dades Valley
We will rise early on the third day of your vacation to take in a magnificent sunrise above the Erg Chebbi Sand Dunes. We’ll ride a camel back to the hotel after the sunrise so you can get ready and eat breakfast before we begin our tour.
